Domaine Russeau
At a time when it was still possible to buy vineyards at Gevrey-Chambertin, the Rousseau, now world famous winemakers, were a family of grocers. Armand, the grandfather, created the “Domaine Rousseau” and the magnificent Grand Cru wine we know.
Charles further developed the business for many decades and then handed over to his son Eric, who had come of age. Eric Rousseau is still a very modest person. He has brought major improvements to the vineyard. “I try to use the same vinification process for all my wines, but the most important thing is that selection does not take place in the cellar, but at the vineyard. I prefer human selection. If selection was too precise and calibrated, all wines would be the same” says Eric.
Over the last decade his wines have gained in quality. At a time when concentrated wines were fashionable, Domaine Rousseau did not change its style and continued to prefer delicacy.
When the concentrated wine fashion faded, the value of Domaine Rousseau wines increased, from the Gevrey-Chambertin-village to Chambertin.
